My name is Allison. I live in Portland, Oregon with my husband, Ace, son, Mark, and our four dogs.
My interests and topics are varied. I write becuase it is one of my primary ways of understanding myself and the world. I’ve always been a journaler and have blogged on and off my entire adult life. I use writing to explore topics that interest me and to share my insights with others as I grow. Parenting, child-development, spirituality, and business are just a few of the topics I enjoy exploring though writing.
I’m currently working on starting a business that is born out of my passions. Stronger Skatepark will be indoor skatepark focused on making skateboarding and other action sports more accessible to all people in the Portland Metro Area. I’ve been a skateboarder since the age of 12 and have worked at an indoor skatepark in my teens, and with Skate Like a Girl as an adult. I love sharing the love of skateboarding with people of all ages, and especially love being an ambassador to young girls showing them that skateboarding is not just for boys (and neither is anything else!).
I’ve also worked with children since I started babysitting at age 11. I then worked on and off as a nanny since age 18 and love caring for children. My goals in childcare are always to find the best ways to respect children as individual and value their freedom while helping them grow as people. Toddlers are some of my favorite people, even in their challenging moments, I simply love being around them and getting to witness how purely they experience the world and how incredibly quickly they learn.
From 2005-2009 I worked in an Assembly of God church designing and running the children’s program. That gave me a good chance at learning to manage people, supplies, and money. I’ve blogged in detail about how my evolving spirituality led to a painful exit from that church.
In 2012 we decided to move cross country from McHenry, IL all the way to Portland, Oregon. Since moving her my husband has become a self- employed musician and I’m currently working on starting the skatepark while delivering for Postmates on the side. On the way I’m blogging about what I ever I feel like blogging about.
